April 2017 – 24 Hour Readathon

So I got a little bit of late start here today.  I overslept and I will admit it felt nice, but here we are and welcome to the April 24 Hour Readathon.  If you do not know what the readathon is, follow this link to find out more about the readathon.

Hours 1-3

Yep, I slept in this morning not waking up until about half way through Hour 3.  Do I fell bad about missing the start of the Readathon, No.  I needed the sleep and now that I am up I am ready to get started on the reading at the top of hour 4.

Opening Survey

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?  From Houston, Texas.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?  13 Reasons Why.  I have been wanting to watch the netflix series and am waiting to read the book to watch the series.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?  I mostly have yogurts to eat.  I am trying to eat healthy so we will see.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!  My work schedule used to not allow me to participate in this readathon.  It always used to fall on my weekend to work, now that my work schedule allows it I am getting started.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?  I have never been able to fully participate so this is my first year to do that and I am really looking forward to that this year (even though I slept through the start).

 Hour 4

This hour I started reading Wrong About the Guy by Clair LaZebnik.  I borrowed this book from the library.

Completed:  15% of Wrong About the Guy

Hour 5

This hour I made a short pause to place an order for a new Keurig for a housewarming gift for my cousin.  Then I stopped and fixed myself something to eat (Lean Pockets for lunch).

Completed: 12% of Wrong About the Guy  bringing myself to 27% completed.

Hour 6

Not much in the way of reading this hour.  Instead someone from work shared this with me and it kept me from reading so that I could watch it and leading me to watch more of the videos in the series.

Hour 7

Having completed another hour in this #Readathon I would like to admit, my attention kind of reminds me of the dog from UP!  Yep, everytime something dings, or makes some sort of noise I have to go and check it out.  I think I have looked out sided 10 times in the last hour because I can hear the wind outside.

Completed:  13% more was completed of Wrong About the Guy.  Hopefully I will finish this book before we reach hour 12 which is now my goal.

Hour 8

Well, the reading may have been slow the last hour, but I have finally made it to the half way mark of my first book.  I think this calls for a celebration.

Completed: Made it to the 50% mark in my first book.  Really can not wait to finish this one.   I have the first volume of Ouran High School Host Club  to read next and I really and looking forward to reading it…yes it comes with pictures.

Hour 9

I ended up not reading much.  Had to make sure some bills were paid (my last weekend of the month alarm went off to remind me to pay my bills).  And then I found this and was hoping to find the ingredients for this project….No luck.  Who is now looking forward to remembering in October some of the things you have seen in this #readathon.

Hours 10-14

OK, so these were some busy hours.  First of all at some point during these hours I finished reading the first book in my #readathon TBR pile.  Also, I stopped and ate some dinner, but before I could eat had to make the dinner itself.  So a very busy few hours.  I tried to listen to an audio book while cooking and doing dishes but I kept getting distracted from what was being said so no audio minutes completed during this time.

Completed: 100% of Wrong About the Guy

Hours 15-24

I am sorry to say that I ended up having to go to bed and work.  I was fixing to get started on reading the next book in my TBR pile when my phone started ringing.  I am happy with my completion level through out the event and I a did pretty well, I even read 1 book completely all the way through.

Closing Survey

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?  The hour in which my manager called and they needed me to come into work the next morning and I had to make the executive decision to go to sleep at that point.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a reader engaged for next year?  Not right now off the top of my head.  I am going to keep a list of books that interest me that others have reviews for October.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next season?  Nope, but I can not wait to get it started.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?  The twitter really helped, for some unknown reason the website stopped showing the correct hour on the front page of the blog.
5. How many books did you read?  I read one full book and started a second but only got 10 pages in.
6. What were the names of the books you read?  I finished Wrong about the Guy by Claire LaZebnik.
7. Which book did you enjoy most?  I was really getting into Ouran High School Host Club before I had to go to sleep.
8. Which did you enjoy least?  I mean I only got to those two books so does it fall to default to Wrong about the Guy Which is just mean because I really was enjoying the book.  I would have quit it earlier if I was not enjoying it.
9. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?  I am making my list of supplies I need to for it now.  Those marshmallow flowers are high on my list of things to make next year.
